Shirley Ferguson, 76 of rural New Sharon passed away Thursday evening, December 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 beginning at 11:00 am at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma with a luncheon to follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.  Burial will then be held in the Union Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with the family present at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.  Memorials may be directed to the Lacey United Methodist Church or the Montezuma FFA.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Mae Ferguson, was born on May 15, 1946 in Knoxville, Iowa to Cornie and Williamina DeJong Netten.  Shirley attended and graduated from North Mahaska in l963.  She was united in marriage to John Ferguson on June 22, 1963.  They became the parents of three daughters, Cathy, Marcy, and Molly.  Shirley was an active farmwife and mother and helped with the farming, enjoyed her flowers and gardening.  She enjoyed sharing her food with everyone and took pride in her yardwork.  Her biggest enjoyment was being a treasured grandma.  Shirley was a wonderful cook and will always be remembered for her brownies, homemade pie, and her famous sugar cookies.  She was a wonderful hostess on holidays, Christmas being her favorite, and loved to shop.  She was a former 4-H leader, while her girls were growing up, and a member of the Lacey United Methodist Church.  Shirley began working at the Montezuma School in 1982 and retired in 2009.  She also enjoyed taking many trips with the Montezuma FFA, serving as a chaperone, and always attended the many events her grandchildren were involved in.

Shirley is survived by her husband, John, of New Sharon; her daughters, Cathy (Scott) Dahm of Cedar Rapids, Marcy (Fritz) James of Searsboro, and Molly (Rick) Swenson of Montezuma; her grandchildren, Danielle Dahm, Ryan (Molly) Dahm, Zach James (Kayla), Aly James (Evan), and Tyler (Makayla) Swenson; her great granddaughter, Maren Dahm; her siblings, Dennis Netten, Larry (Becky) Netten and Sherill Grubb; as well as many other friends and relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
