Sylvia Evelyn Roshek Facile, 77, of Altoona, Iowa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2020, at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn around 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

She was born December 24, 1942, in Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Emma (Moller) Roshek. She graduated from Victor High School in 1961, and AIB College of Business in 1963.

On October 9, 1965, she was united in marriage with Albert August Facile at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. They made their home north of Montezuma where they raised their three children: Matthew August, Mark Albert, and Christine Evelyn. Once the kids were grown, she pursued her culinary interests at Grinnell College and enjoyed her eight years there.

No one ever went hungry on the Facile farm - Sylvia made sure of that! From the home-grown meats and her immaculate vegetable garden, her meals were second to none. While dinner was on the stove, she was already looking through cookbooks for the next meal. If you wanted to know which meals Albert liked the most, just check out the cookbooks, as there you would find "Good, Albert liked"  or "NO, they didn't like" handwritten next to certain recipes. Topping Sylvia's favorite pastimes were spending time with her children and grandchildren, her love of flowers (she was a Master Gardener), and shopping. One mention of Goode Greenhouses or Von Maur and she would beat you to the car.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Marvin; and other relatives.

Sylvia is survived by two sons: Matthew and Lisa  Facile of Montezuma, Iowa, and Mark and Randa  Facile of Pella, Iowa; one daughter, Christine McCarty of Altoona, Iowa; four grandchildren: Megan and Seth Cranston and Jacob Facile, and Makayla and Amanda McCarty; two brothers: Jerry and Joyce Roshek of Altoona, Iowa, and Kenny Roshek of Victor, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.
