Verla McMahan, 89 of Roberta, Georgia passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the New Sharon First Christian Church. Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery near New Sharon. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be to the New Sharon First Christian Church or Mahaska Hospice. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of local arrangements.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Rooks Funeral Home in Byron, Georgia with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Verla Aleen Graham McMahan was born in Lacey, Iowa, on June 8, 1931, to the late Roy and Hazel McDonough Graham. Verla graduated from Lacey High School and married Adrian McMahan on June 26, 1949. Verla worked side by side with her husband on the family farm and in their feed store. She was a member of the King's Daughters, a 4 H leader, Cub Scouts den leader, Sunday School teacher, and worked at Hardees in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  She played in the bell choir at Ocala Christian Church and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to help build the first house built entirely by women in Ocala, Florida. Verla worked at Arby's in Ocala and 10 years at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.  She held many positions at Roberta, Georgia, Methodist Church and volunteered at the senior center in Roberta. One of her biggest accomplishments was volunteering and donating over three gallons of blood to save lives in Iowa, Florida and Georgia.

Verla is preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, sisters, Arlene Fox and Adlene Heberer and brothers, Ray Graham and John Graham.

Survivors include her children, Janet (Ron)Ver Steegt, Linda Ehle, Jim (Lauren) McMahan, Debra (Doug) Childers, Jeanne McMahan, and John (Patricia) McMahan; grandchildren, Jonathan Henry, Jason Henry, Ellie Bowen, Valarie Scholtus, Josh Childers, Mac Ver Steegt, Shaun Childers, Weslee McMahan, Kristy McMahan, Bradlee McMahan, Ryan Childers, Autumn Reisetter, Kimberly McMahan, Branden McMahan, and Keely McMahan; 26 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; and a brother, Larry Graham.
