Bill Henkle, 91 of Montezuma passed away Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2020 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm on Monday, June 1, 2020 with the family present to greet friends and relatives from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire and Ambulance, Montezuma Methodist Church or the Montezuma Lions. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Henry Henkle was born on March 22, 1929, the son of Henry and Ruth Traxler Henkle. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1947. On June 18, 1952 Bill was united in marriage to Leila Hall and to this union three children were born; Diana, Lyle and Michael. Bill and his father farmed together and also sold Pioneer Seed for over 42 years. A partnership was then formed with Dennis "Buck" James and became H & J Fertilizer in Montezuma for 38 years.  In 2000, Bill sold his share of the business to Brent James. He continued to stay busy hauling dirt, gravel and sand with his dump truck. Bill was a people person and enjoying visiting at H & J, Ron's Barber Shop or just anywhere. He loved a good conversation and meeting new people. He enjoyed tractor pulls with his brother, Roger, for many years. Bill built the farm pond at his farm and stocked and fed the many fish. He also mowed the Wayside Park for many years. Bill was a longtime member of the Montezuma Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Montezuma Lions. His most important joy was his family. He attended many events that his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in.

Bill passed away on Thursday, May 28 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa on his mother's birthday. His memory will be cherished by his wife of almost 68 years, Leila; his daughter, Diana DeJong of Montezuma, and his son, Michael (Brenda) Henkle of Montezuma; his grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Henkle, Tanya (Josh Bru) Henkle, Thomas (Cori) Henkle, Hannah DeJong, Michaella (Terry) Saunders, April DeJong and Lane (Linzay) Henkle; his great grandchildren, Lyle, Laila, Tristan, Lily, Linkyn, Abbi, Tait, Taylor, Macy and Addy, as well as many other friends and relatives.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Henkle; his son, Lyle Henkle; his son-in-law, Dwight DeJong; his siblings, Roger Henkle, Mildred Ehret, Doris Van Arkel and Eleanor Hicks.
